Application

The braid (in Slavic krajka) is suitable to various cultures and historical periods reenactment or cosplay. It’s a kind of woven belt very popular through the centuries. It can be used as a belt for historical ouftif or a renaissance costume. Great as a cosplay belt or a folk sash, but these are just examples. It’s versatile.
Do you wear calf wraps? They’ll look great fastened with the trim belt. Also perfect for braiding the edges of costumes.
This woven strap will be ideal as a Slavic headband. Slavic women liked to wear such bands and decorated them with jewelry.
Another idea for use is a boho style interior.
If you are not afraid of a bold style, the krajka will be a great trim for a blanket or bedspread. You can also hang something on it, for example your favourite dress.

Usage

The braid is made of natural wool and should be hand washed in cool water.
Be especially careful washing clothes hemmed with it. It’s woven of a new wool thread dyed in intense colors, so it can color clothes if washed carelessly.

What’s that thing?

The krajka is made on a rigid heddle. It’s a kind of simple loom, wooden board with holes and slits. This invention is very ancient and common in various cultures. It’s a prototype of a modern loom.
Such braids were used in ancient times, throughout the Middle Ages and until recently. Nowadays they are still used in folk costumes.
There were many variants and colors. For technological reasons people mainly wove stripe patterns on rigid heddle looms. The Slavic people especially liked striped belts and clothes. To this day it is visible in the folk costumes of Central and Eastern Europe. Local striped clothes are like famous Scotch tartan in terms of application.
